Maya Ivory is presently a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in General Fine Arts and Humanistic Studies with a minor in Illustration at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). She’s from Upper Marlboro Maryland,  and was raised in various religious spheres–ranging from her schooling to her family. This religious diversity has come to influence the themes she portrays within her body of work, which focuses on godhood, girlhood, divinity and rebirth. She places emphasis on capturing the ephemera, the fantastical as well as the whimsical within her pieces. Additionally, to accurately portray these themes, she constructs narratives through poetry and prose–of which she has an extensive background in creative writing and world building–which revolve around the characters she creates, with the end goal of developing the world around them and breathing life into them. Through this combination of illustration, world-building, character design, creative writing, poetry, book-making, and concept art she endeavors to manifest these elements into numerous installations that evokes the feeling of stepping into this fictitious world, of becoming a worshiper and becoming  fully engrossed within fantasy, as she once was in her adolescence.
